  • Weekly cleaning and maintenance is undertaken on the Wild Island Splash Zone every Thursday until 11am.
  • Weekly essential maintenance is conducted on the Currumbin Railway network every Wednesday until 11:30am. Trains operate all afternoon on a Wednesday following this maintenance until 4pm.
  • Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is closed on April 25 and December 25 every year.

Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary: An experience like no other

Established in 1947, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to one of the largest collections of Australian native species – you’ll find emus, cassowaries, koalas, kangaroos and capybaras here! You’ll also be able to learn about their habitats, how they feed, how injured animals are cared for, and lots more at the sanctuary! Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit for wildlife enthusiasts, as you’ll get to see some rare species here – like the Tasmanian red devils, red pandas, and tree kangaroos!

Lost Valley

Animals inside: Lemurs, red pandas, cotton-top tamarins, capybaras, and exotic birds

Explore ancient Gondwana rainforests and meet some of the world's most unique and endangered species. The lush rainforest environment inside is designed to mimic the natural habitats of these animals, providing an educational experience as you learn about biodiversity and conservation.

Outback Springs

Animals inside: Kangaroos, emus, dingoes, and koalas

Learn all about the Australian farmyard life at Outback Springs, meet kangaroos and emus and play with guinea pigs and chickens! At this zone, you’ll also get a chance to learn about gemstone panning and mining!

Koala Habitat

Meet koalas up close and learn everything there is to know about their conservation! This habitat is designed to closely mimic the koalas' natural environment, so you can see them in an authentic setting.

Free Flight Bird Show

Animals inside: Eagles, owls, parrots, pelicans

Witness the incredible skills of birds of prey and other avian wonders during this live show – watch pelicans, emus, owls, eagles and pelicans feed and fly freely.

Wildlife Hospital

Inside: Ailing animals and birds

The Wildlife Hospital is a real, working veterinary facility dedicated to the treatment and care of native Australian animals. Watch as the nurses and vets inside help ailing, injured animals get back to full health at this facility and learn how to care for these gentle creatures.

Reptile House

Animals inside: Snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodiles

Learn all about these slimy, scaled creatures that are so often misunderstood, and get up close with a harmless snake or crocodile! This exhibit also aims to replicate their natural environments, so the reptiles will be at their most comfortable while you interact with them.

Echidna Encounter

Animals inside: Short-beaked echidnas

In this interactive exhibit, you'll observe echidnas using their long, sticky tongues to feed, and if you're lucky, one might even crawl over you! Each echidna has its own personality, making every encounter special.

Wild Island Adventure Splash Zone

Rides inside: Water jets, fountains and pools

Designed with interactive water elements, this zone is a great place for kids – with features like timed water jets, streams, and waterfalls. It also includes a thrilling tipping bucket, ensuring plenty of opportunities to get drenched!

  • Best time to visit: For the best experience at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, visit early in the morning or late afternoon on weekdays; avoid the crowd and see animals at their most active. The cooler, drier months from May to October are ideal for comfortable weather​ conditions!

  • Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is home to the first successful breeding program for the critically endangered Kroombit Tinker Frog!

Is it worth visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary?

You’ll also get to have some unique experiences, like watching animal surgeries at the Wildlife Hospital!

What are my ticket options?

You’ll be able to avail an entry ticket to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary – this ticket provides full access to the sanctuary, including all exhibits and shows. Children get a discounted ticket, while infants go free!  

What animals can I see inside?

You'll be able to see a wide variety of animals, including koalas, kangaroos, and echidnas. The Lost Valley exhibit features playful lemurs and capybaras. You'll see birds of prey in the WildSkies Free Flight Bird Show, as well as other fascinating species like Tasmanian devils, red pandas, and tree kangaroos.

What should I bring for my visit?

We’d recommend bringing comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen, water, and a camera. Also, consider bringing a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain.

Is car parking available?

Yes, car parking is available at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. You’ll have to pay AU$10 for parking if you’re not a member of the National Trust of Australia (Queensland). Members of NTA can park for free.

Are there dining options available?

Yes, the sanctuary has several dining options including cafes and kiosks offering a variety of food and beverages. There are also picnic areas available for those who wish to bring their own food.

Is the sanctuary wheelchair accessible?
